"As I was walking out the door at IFTD in Orlando this summer, Brian Runnals of Postfly Box handed me one of their latest monthly Trout Flybox Subscription to check out. It had been sitting unopened on my desk for a bit and recently I took a few minutes to do an "unboxing" and check it out part by part.

While there are a few providers out there, I recently discovered my favorite, Postfly Box. Monthly subscription packages start at $15."
"Are you passionate about fly fishing? Then Postfly Box is your one-stop shop. They deliver flies directly to your doorstep, so you can spend more time on the water. We recently had a chance to talk to Brian Runnals, owner and operator of Postfly Box.
He’s a really cool guy with an outstanding business serving the everyday angler – you! Whatever your fly fishing needs, Postfly Box has you covered."
"I've been tying flies for years, but it was getting a little stale for me lately, I have to admit. I felt like a short-order cook, frying up the same old burgers (or woolly buggers) over and over. And though I love hooking a trout on a bug I spun up myself, I was lazy about my tying. I needed a shot in the arm."Read Full Article →]]>

Flies sold at the mega fishing stores in Japan are not only expensive but they tend to fall apart quickly. Then I came across Postfly Box, a fly mail delivery service, and figured it was worth a shot.
Postfly Box offers Trout, Bass, Saltwater, and Steelhead fly subscriptions with the option to “beef up” the fly count so that if you lose that ‘magic fly you’ll have an extra in your box’. You can opt for the basic one month subscription all the way up to a yearly subscription. I opted for the basic trout fly subscription, which only costs $15 a month – shipping included (I can knock that down to $12 a month if I opt for the 1 year subscription at $144)!"

And unbeknownst to most people is that the folks creating those flies and sending them everywhere are in Newbury, just down the road from the Route 1 traffic circle in Newburyport.
Postfly has been at its Newburyport Turnpike site for more than a year. But conceding that many might not have heard of the company, it will open its doors Wednesday for an open house and holiday party.

The company is subscription-based and sells boxes of flies catering to all kinds of fly fishers from saltwater to warm-water enthusiasts."
"Back in the day (not my ‘back in the day,’ but my father’s) you could order flies from a paper catalog that came in the mail. In fact, a paper catalog launched tier Jack Dennis’s career, and I still use his Picket Pin and Mormon Girl patterns on a regular basis.
Fast forward to the past few years when mail-order products have exploded in popularity, and it was only a matter of time until a company came along offering mail-order flies, tippet, leader, and floatant, among other products.
Postfly is that company. For $19/month, they’ll send you a box of flies (trout, bass, warmwater, steelhead, saltwater, and tying material boxes) that also includes a few extras each month. Those extras range from stickers to informative posters and koozies."

They all look good but this pencil popper caught my eye. My amateur photography doesn’t do it justice.
This guy looks like more of a saltwater fly, but I’ll put him in the lineup.

Taking a lot of advice from them I bought a 9 foot 5X rod and reel combo. My buddies and I go on wilderness kayak fishing trips each year and end up on some amazing tailwaters, so it’s a good fit for what we do.
I’ve been out several times and have been successful in catching largemouth, perch, and even several rainbow trout on my own."

As a subscriber to a similar service for spin fishing (I could almost hear the gasp with the mention of spin fishing), I thought I would give it a try. There has been a rash of subscription based services hit the scene over the last several years pertaining to all sorts of things, notably men’s and women’s consumables, and even baby stuff.

I think most of the subscriptions I first noticed were those for clothing or personal care products, like those from Trunk Club or Birchbox. For those unfamiliar, you essentially receive an assortment of products based on your personal preferences every 30 or so days, like clockwork.

I knew the box had to be sitting, waiting, wanting me to pick it up… today. Today had to be the day. I checked my mail box for the last three days in hopes that this little black box might show up early only to be disappointed. So, today… I knew… it had to be there. The anticipation overpowered me as I slid the key into the hole of my mailbox and turned. I could almost feel the gears turn inside the their cylinder as the lock granted me access to the little black box that forced me to wait impatiently while it traveled from Massachusetts to Nevada in five days. The door to my box swung open, I looked in, and…IT CAME. It came…after waiting for almost a month my little black box finally came. I knew today was the day. My PostFly box finally arrived.

So I came into the possession of my PostFly Box as a Christmas present. I guess I talked up this item to my gf enough as I'd talked about gifting a friend of mine a 3mo gift subscription for Christmas. So to my surprise I too was gifted a 3 month subscription for the Trout box. I have the ability to change what box I'm shipped month to month.
